Tornado-testing the new UniFi G5 Cameras

This Easter, a tornado passed a quarter mile from my home office in Carl Junction, MO. My UniFi G5 cameras—Turret Ultra, PTZ, and Dome Ultra—captured it all. Here’s the footage and how they performed.

The G5 Turret Ultra, on my front porch, recorded the storm rolling in. Its 2K resolution and wide-angle lens caught my brother and sister-in-law grabbing Odin, our livestock guardian dog, from his crate to head to the shelter.

The G5 PTZ, on my garage, showed our cats sprinting home as the storm hit. A neighbor’s car, leaving the neighborhood, turned around at my driveway when they saw falling branches and the worsening weather.

The G5 Dome Ultra, aimed at the PTZ and garage doors, caught one of the cats from the PTZ footage darting through to find shelter, all in clear 2K.

Right after the tornado, I drove through the damage path—trees down, roofs hit, debris scattered. I recorded it to show what it left behind.

The G5 cameras held up great. Clear footage, solid weatherproofing, and reliable motion tracking kept me in the loop during the storm and the Switch Mission Critical kept my cameras up and running even after the power went out. All is well, and we’re very fortunate that we didn’t have anything more serious than some missing shingles.
